Autumnal D&Dr and civilized settings
Every year during autumn, I blog here about our old Dungeons & Dragons campaign and what we played during the season. As it is the equinox tomorrow, I thought I would do it tonight, even though I know I rambled a lot about it in previous posts, in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Autumn and winter were the seasons when we played more intensively when we were teenagers, this explains that. And it was also the time where we were most inspired, not certain why. Something about the colours of autumn, the change of daylights? I remember more our characters in an autumnal forest. Or in a (pseudo) medieval city on a market day, during harvest. In fact, the second adventure of our campaign was not set in a remote area, but in a thriving city, that was suffering from a wave of thefts and burglaries. Civilized places, in fantasy settings as well as real ones, can be places of danger and adventure. Just like in this lush image, from the issue 201 of Dragon Magazine. We had some interesting moments there, having to fight not only cutthroats (as well as a few monsters), but corrupted city officials and sometimes the worst instincts of some of the player characters (they were thieves). It was not our best game, but it was entertaining and we learned a lot through trials and errors.
