A walk in the woods

Yesterday, I went walking in a nearby(ish) wood. It was a cloudy day, which made the woods quite dark, it was cool and autumn was in full bloom. I love walking in the woods in autumn. As I blogged before, I find woodlands very atmospheric, especially in autumn. As I mentioned in my post last year, forests are associated with the supernatural and the danger of the unknown. Even now that we understand nature better, woodlands did not lose their eerie feeling. Walking in the light and darkness of the forest, I felt like a character in Dungeons & Dragons or one from a horror story. As Halloween is getting closer and closer, I love to to get myself in the mood by doing these kinds of walks, it has become a yearly ritual since I live in this country.

My dad couldn't stop thinking about how great it must be to celebrate Halloween in Amsterdam and it made me think of you :)

I always associate woods with magic toadstools, fairies, and adventure, but then Enid Blyton was my early childhood reading material, and her 'Enchanted Wood', and 'Faraway Tree' tales made me view woods, and forests in a more optimistic light. Yes there were evil goblins, but good always triumphed. Not a very practical guide to adult life, but I still read the books when I need a little 'magic' in my life:-)

Having just returned from vacation, I can not agree more. The woods are quite simply 'magical' in the Autumn time. We spent many hours climbing mountains through the woods this past week and we loved every minute of it. I have lots of photos to share if I can ever get them uploaded. Your photo is very lovely indeed. My favorite places in the the woods are when you come into a 'clearing' like what is pictured in your image. I always feel like something 'magical' should take place there...ha!
