Countdown to Halloween

Today is the first of October, which means that it is the official countdown to Halloween. In fact, my countdown to the holiday sometimes starts on the first of November, but really today is the day where I get on a Halloween timeline, so to speak. I will read horror stories, watch horror films and start decorating the house. often, I find the build up to the day more exciting the than the day itself (especially since this year Halloween is on a Monday).

It also means that I am going to look for a pumpkin to carve a Jack O'Lantern. As long time readers of this blog know, this is one of the most exciting part of all. I loooooove carving pumpkins. I also love the story of Jack O'Lantern. So to celebrate this countdown to Halloween, I have decided to put here on this blog a Youtube video telling the tale of Jack O'Lantern. It is told by a modern day witch/Pagan assocation. I am not big on neo-Paganism, but I liked this video. I have my own version of the Jack O'Lantern legend, which I might write on this blog one day. Until then, here it is:

I wonder how far back Stingy Jack goes. Pre-Christian? Pre-Roman? He's really quite unique, how man mythologies include a trickster who tricks tricksters?

Happy October. Like you, the weeks leading to Halloween are usually more enjoyable than the day itself. I love this story! :)
