2025 A Few New Designs

There was a Christmas market today at the hotel where my parents are staying. They have one every year at the end of November, which I find a tiny bit early, but we go there every year all the same. I usually buy a decoration or two, if I can find some that look nice. In a stand, they were selling among other things hand made pine cones meant to be like Christmas tree baubles. I thought they would make a nice addition to our Christmas tree, so I bought two of them, because they were two for five pounds. So here they are, to put you in the spirit of the season.
As it is still autumn (at least in theory), I decided to share a comic strip from Peanuts, featuring Snoopy and his often quiet and bird talking friend Woodstock. Snoppy has always been my favourite character, I love his mythomania and his attitude. Sometimes, he can also be very wise, as in this strip when he describes autumn. it is indeed a transitional season, when you have to keep moving. Not like Woodstock to avoid leaves, but to keep warm. Anyway, I thought it was a good way to describe my favourite season.
I found this meme on Facebook, a friend of mine put it on its wall and I thought it was so funny, I did the same. In fact, it was so funny that I thought I might as well share it on this blog as well. There are many morals to this story: 1)when it comes to humor I am very easy to please, 2)Facebook and other social networks are rather mundane and often downright stupid.
It was ten years ago yesterday that Casino Royale was released in the UK. I have been a James Bond fan for many years and was waiting to see the film eagerly. After the controversial casting of Daniel Craig as James Bond, then two very promising trailers, I had high expectations for it. I first watched it in Liverpool, with my then girlfriend now wife. And my expectations were met. In fact, even my wife, who is certainly not into James Bond, really loved it. So I wanted to celebrate its ten years anniversary on Vraie Fiction. I will show two clips of the movie: the introduction of Craig as the new Bond (here beginning as a MI6 operative), so the extended pre-title sequence, then the opening credits, with the movie's song. If you have never seen the movie, you will I hope see why Craig is so awesome in the role. And it is just such an exciting introduction to a movie that completely renewed the role and the series.
This is what I had been asking myself when i bought yesterday this beer at Marks & Spencer. December is not here yet, in fact we are not even half way into November. Christmas is, of course, everywhere in the town center, but I never managed to get in the festive spirit so early. Especially not here, since there is no snow or no winter to speak of. All the same, I was curious about this beer, so I bought it and made it my poison for yesterday. It might not be the right time yet to drink it, nevertheless it is my kind of ale, dark as it should be and with plenty of flavour. I think I will make it one of my festive beers. Which sort of justifies yesterday's puschase: I was testing it.
I blogged about this Mountain Warehouse fleece before. I bought it ridiculously cheap during a sale. My wife hated it, because she hates green as a colour, especially for clothes. I love green, although I must confess this one does not have the nicest kind of green, if that makes sense. It may not look good, but it is the best fleece I had in ages: it is comfortable, just warm enough when temperatures get cold, there are pockets on the side for stuff (very useful) and well, it is one of my favourite piece of clothing. In fact, it is so comfy and practical that now even my wife nicks it from time to time! The fleece often ends up in the wash because it receives pukes from little Wolfie after feeding and it is another reason why we love it so much.
This is what I saw this morning. The first official frost of the year. I even heard that in some places nearby, they had seen a bit of snow. There was no snow here, not a sign of it, but the temperatures were below zero and almost wintery. Are we going to finally have, here in England, a proper winter? I had lost hope the last few year: news channels keep repeating, every single year, that it will be the harshest winter on record, or something of the sort, but it never happens. We always end up having a mild, sometimes cool and always wet season. But this, so early in November, this cold and dry temperature... It is most welcome.
I don't know why, but today I thought of the board game Clue, or Cluedo as it is called here in the UK. When I was a child, my brothers and I spent so many weekends playing the game. As it was PJ who received the game on his birthday in October, the novelty had not worn off in November, when I remember playing the game the most, and sometimes expanding it into live action, improvised crime stories, often set in an English mansion (for me the Cluedo mansion was THE mansion), with plenty of secret passages. It helped me get through the dreary days of November... And get over the Sunday blues! And today I thought that it could be a nice activity to spend time on a November Sunday.
I do this lousy word play every year or almost, but it is important for me to remind everyone, at the beginning of this dreary month that is November, that the clementines are available and at their best. Little balls of citrus sunshine smelling delicious and an excellent source of vitamin C. It takes two clementines to make one portion of your five a day. I bought these ones at Marks & Spencer, like I do every year, as I think they have the best ones. I do miss the big boxes I used to buy in Montreal, but there you go. I had my first two clementines a few minutes ago and I can still smell their perfume on my fingers.
