Le taureau et le vin rouge

Quand j'étais étudiant à Montréal, dans les années 90, j'achetais souvent du vin cheap. Pas du vin de dépanneur, du vin de la SAQ, mais du vin de la SAQ cheap, sauf dans les occasions spéciales. Et souvent, j'achetais selon l'apparence de la bouteille ou de l'étiquette. J'ai donc bu du Sangre de Toro assez souvent, même si c'était dans mon souvenir assez mauvais. Parce qu'il y avait attaché la la bouteille par un ruban un petit taureau en plastique. J'en ai gardé au moins un, sur lequel j'ai blogué en avril 2013. J'ai appris plus tard qu'il n'y a plus de taureau qui vient avec la bouteille. Il semble même que les figurines se vendent sur ebay à un prix prohibitif. Je ne voudrais jamais vendre ce taureau, il me rappelle trop une époque de ma vie.

Une occasion pour du mousseux

J'ai pris cette photo dans un restaurant, le jour de la fête de ma femme. Ils donnaient un verre de mousseux gratuit pour l'occasion. Sans doute du prosecco, peut-être du champagne (je ne sais pas faire la différence, philistin que je suis). Depuis quelques temps, j'ai comme envie de reboire du mousseux, mais j'aimerais trouver un prétexte quelconque, une occasion à célébrer. J'imagine qu'il y a la Saint-Valentin dans une semaine. Ce sera sans doute donc ça, mais je préfère en général que ce soit un évènement heureux et inattendu, ce qui n'est pas trop arrivé récemment. Bon, ce sera donc pour la Saint-Valentin, si j'en achète d'ici là.

Le cellier à vin

Tout d'abord, une précision: la photo est vraiment mal cadrée, je m'en excuse. Que voulez-vous, je ne suis pas un pro. Mais enfin bref: mes parents ont ce cellier à vin chez eux. Bon, ce n'est pas une cave à vins complète, mais il est quand même bien rempli. Il a aussi beaucoup impressionné petit loup quand il l'a vu. Quand j'avais son âge, on avait un rack à vins dans une des armoires et même ça m'impressionnait. Pour aimer le vin, surtout le vin rouge, ça m'a pris du temps, mais je crois que voir des bouteilles rangées comme ça, ça donnait un air de mystère et de noblesse au vin que les autres alcools n'ont pas.

Glögg (word of the day)

 Don't judge me, but I have been watching a Christmas romcom series on Netflix, called Home for Christmas. Not exactly groundbreaking, but while not original it can be genuinely cute at times and reasonably clever. But I watch it because it's set in Norway and it looks perfect for the holidays. Oh, and it's the same team that made A Storm for Christmas, which I really loved. Anyway, I discovered thanks to the third season a sort of mulled wine (or spirit) called glögg. Originally from Sweden, or so the Wikipedia entry says. I love to discover new Yuletide traditions and I hope to try glögg one day. Anyone ever drank it? Leave me a comment. And glögg is the word of the day.

Spiced Mulled Wine

I went to a local Christmas fayre recently. Our little town has one every year, I try to go there if I can. It's pretty much the same every year mostly a night of shopping for Christmas, but it is also the opportunity to eat and drink. And, often, to drink the first cup of mulled wine. There were stalls selling it everywhere. I took a glass from The Spiced Wine Company. Not sure why this one or another, as it was a quid more expensive, but I enjoyed the drink anyway. All warm and spicy and seasonal.

Beaujolais pas nouveau

 Bon, c'est le temps du Beaujolais nouveau. Je ne suis pas un grand amateur de vin, ni encore moins un connaisseur, mais j'aime bien parfois suivre la tendance et les vieilles traditions, enfin bref, il m'arrive de boire du Beaujolais nouveau. Ma femme en a donc commandé lors de notre dernière épicerie. Je me suis rendu compte que c'était du Beaujolais de... 2023. Je l'ai bu quand même. Pour être honnête, je ne fais pas la différence.

Free Fizz

We went to a French restaurant recently, to celebrate my wife's birthday. As she subscribed to their newsletter, we received a glass of "free fizz" each. Well, except Wolfie. I cannot tell if it was champagne or prosecco, but it's a nice piece of freebie when we celebrate. Even my wife, who does not like alcohol all that much, enjoys a bit of bubbly from time to time. It was not the greatest "champagne" I drank (if indeed it was champagne), and it was not cold enough, but all the same, I do enjoy a freebie, especially when it's alcohol.

Et maintenant le vin blanc...

 Parce que le vin rouge me fait éternuer, j'ai décidé petit à petit de l'éliminer de mon régime et de privilégier la bière et le vin blanc, même si je n'ai jamais été un grand fan de ce dernier. Mais au fil des années, j'ai appris à apprécier le vin blanc et à accompagner mes repas avec, puisque je ne pouvais plus autant apprécier le rouge. Jusqu'à ce soir: je viens d'avoir une bonne crise d'éternuements comme si j'avais le rhume. Ce fût pénible, pour moi comme pour ma femme, qui déteste quand j'éternue comme un éléphant enrhumé. Enfin bref, je ne veux pas devenir (entièrement) sobre, mais ça commence à bien faire. On dirait que le vin ne veut plus de moi.

New Zealand Merlot

I mentioned recently that I won a bottle of wine in a tombola at Wolfie's school. A red wine, a Merlot from New Zealand. The one from Oyster Bay. I rarely drink red wine anymore, because it makes me sneeze as if I had a severe cold. And it gives me headaches. And also, it makes me thirsty. Well, I had the bottle pretty much all by myself, drank it in a few days, and I survived. I sneezed a bit the first night, then I was okay. So moral of the story: I can drink red wine again. I'm glad, because I always loved red wine, in spite of all the pain and suffering it gave me.

Tombola

There was a school fayre this afternoon at Wolfie's school, I went there right after work, for the last thirty minutes or so. I had time to enter a tombola: you buy tickets and you could buy a bottle of wine, of beer or of whatever drink, alcoholic or not. It was £2.00 for five tickets. At first, I only found a pound, so I asked: "Can I have two tickets and a half?" I think it deserves to be a great unknown line. Not my best, but it's been a while since I shared one funny line. Anyway, I found another pound in my pocket, so I got my five tickets, then I bought some more. In the end, we got a bottle of red wine, a soft drink and a bottle of non alcoholic coktail. Not bad.

Festival des vins de Saguenay

J'apprends au hasard qu'il y a un Festival des vins de Saguenay. Et que c'est commencé aujourd'hui. Alors, voilà, annonce d'intérêt public: c'est du 10 au 12 juillet.

Fizzy Fest

 I blogged about a month ago about the Fizzy Fest, a of prosecco festival that will be held in the very English town of Marlow in mid-July And not just any prosecco festival, but "the prosecco superior festival". Sunds very posh and a bit snobby, but I'm all for it. Anyway, it has a cool promotional poster, it looks more like a gathering of educated English ladies of good families, but hey, they might let me in if I go there with my wife. And if not this year (we may have other engagements), then the next, because I suspect it will be a success.

Prosecco in Marlow

 The things you learn sometimes on the local news. SO I read yesterday that the small and very English town of Marlow (which is not very far from where we live) was going to host the first ever Prosecco Superiore festival in the UK. That's pretty cool. It's going to be called "Fizzy Fest" (not sure about the name, to be honest). I also learned in the article that the UK has the largest consumption of prosecco after Italy. It's news to me, but not surprising. I for one enjoy prosecco. I am not all that much into fizzy drinks, except beer, but prosecco is drinkable and generally much cheaper than champagne (although the one at this festival is most likely pricy, given that it is superior). So yeah, the Fizzy Fest has a website so I will check it from time to time and who knows, I might even attend. I am a Philistine when it comes to wine and bubbly wine, but I am curious and eager to learn.

Vin blanc

 J'ai pris en photo (ça m'arrive) le poison d'hier, rien que parce que. Et parce que des fois je bois du vin, même si je ne suis vraiment pas un connnaisseur et que c'est rare que je boive du vin plutôt que de la bière. Plus souvent qu'autrement, c'est du vin blanc. Je préfère le rouge, en général, mais deux raisons me font choisir du vin blanc, quand je bois du vin. 1)Ma femme préfère le vin blanc et je ne veux pas boire seul. 2)Le vin rouge me fait souvent éternuer (sulfites, sulfites). Alors donc, quand je bois du vin maintenant, je favorise le blanc.

First Mulled Wine

One of the things I did to put myself in the Christmas spirit this weekend was have my very first mulled wine of the season. Because 'tis the season to be drinking. Nothing too fancy, it looked pretty bare in fact, no orange, no elegant cup or mug. But it tasted good. There was a local Christmas fayre and a stand that was selling it, I had to have one, which I shared with my wife. Mulled wine is one of the few alcohols she genuinely loves. So yeah, it warmed us up while Wolfie was queing to see Santa.

Plus de paella

 J'ai blogué le 19 juillet, donc il n'y a pas si longtemps, sur la paella que papa avait fait alors pour mon cousin et sa mère en visite. Bon, ben tout ça pour direqu'il a remis ça hier, avec cette paella tout à fait décadente. Je suis genre flabbergasté. Et très, très, très envieux. Je n'ai pas vu de paella aussi décadente avant, même en photo. Mais enfin bref, rien que parce que c'est excessif, je partage cette photo ce soir. Si seulement j'avais pu manger ça pour souper...

Le Tourdion

Je voulais la partager depuis quelques temps, une interprétation du Tourdion que mon frère PJ a trouvée. petite anecdote: je la chante parfois comme berceuse. Bon, allons, tous ensemble: "Quand je bois du vin clairet..."

La paella

C'est une tradition familiale quand vient l'été chez mes parents. Une tradition familiale qui n'est pas la mienne, hélas, parce que j'ai quitté le nid... familial, justement, il y a quelques années, bien avant que mes parents ne s'y mettent et en fassent justement une tradition. Enfin bref, mon cousin et ma tante sont en visite chez eux et mes parents ont donc décidé de faire une paella. Mon cousin m'a gentiment envoyé une photo, à la demande de mon père qui sait que j'aime partager des photos gastronomiques sur le blogue. Avec du vin blanc (pas du rouge?) pour accompagner. Avouez que c'est dommage de ne pas pouvoir essayer ça. Un jour peut-être. D'ici là, j'ai droit à des photos. Et vous aussi...

Sabler le champagne

 Comme vous le savez déjà, j'ai reçu de mon employeur une bouteille de Veuve Clicquot. Parce que je travaille pour eux depuis trois ans. C'était donc pour fêter mon anniversaire de travail et en reconnaissance de mes loyaux services. J'ai donc pu sabler le champagne en fin de semaine. Je ne sais pas si c'est l'âge ou si c'est parce que j'avais envie de célébrer, mais j'avais oublié à quel point c'est bon du vrai de vrai champagne. Je dirais même que ça se boit comme de l'eau, mais en plus savoureux.
