Here is a bit of news: today is the full moon, the Buck Moon as I learned the July full moon is called, thanks to this BBC article. Named after the male deer, apparently. It's a really cool name for a full moon. Anyway, I love watching a good full moon, so this evening I might go out and take a look. Hopefully it will not be too light outside and it will not be too hot. Anyway, I suggest you read the article I shared for more information.

Seeing a Deer
We saw a rare sight a few days ago, last Thursday n fact, when we picked up Wolfie from school. We were walking back to the car when we saw a shape moving, like running in the alleyways. At first I thought it was a dog, but then we saw it was a small deer. I tried to take a picture, without any luck: the deer was just way too fast. He ran from the alleyway to a park near the school, disappeared a moment out of sight, then ran back towards us, jumped away on a front garden, then he ran further away and disappeared. And that was it. Apparently, there have been sighting of a similar animal, maybe the same, elsewhere in town. It could be a muntjac, possibly, at least it has been speculated. I will keep you posted if we see the critter again and I will try to take a snapshot this time.

A herd of deer
A couple of weeks ago, we went to visit my parents-in-law. The roads we take to get there are surrounded by shrubbery, woodlands and also grazing fields. As we were passing by one of these fields, we saw a herd of deer running through them, jumping over the fences when they needed. They were fast, gracious, and running in total harmony. It only lasted a few seconds, but we were very impressed. We often see deer on the road, sometimes very close to it, sometimes sadly we see a roadside kill. But we never saw a herd before. It really made our day. Since then, Wolfie keeps an eye out for deer, especially when we pass by the grazing fields. I'm not sure if we will be so lucky again, but you never know.

Doe, a deer...
We spent the afternoon yesterday at a petting zoo, where Wolfie met one of his best friends from school, a little girl of Chinese origins who adores him. I will probably blog about her one day, but this post is about something else. As we were driving home, in a nearby small town not far from our own, I saw a fawn. Maybe it was a doe, but I think it was a fawn, as it was quite small, so much so that at first I thought it might be a fox and a dog. It was walking at a brisk pace on the pavement by the road, looking scared, then stopped in an alleyway further down. It only lasted a few seconds. We parked nearby and we decided to call a wildlife hospital. They could not do anything, not unless it was injured and the fawn didn't seem to be, or unless we had visuals on it. We did not, so we drove back, trying to find it, to no avail. There was a good deal of woodlands and fields nearby, so we hope it managed to find a way back to the wild. We will also keep eyes on local social media, in case the deer has been spotted by others. I just hope the animal is okay.

Jólabókaflóð
I blogged about it last year. I made it a word of the day then, I will do the same now. So Jólabókaflóð is an Icelandic term meaning "Christmas Book Flood" and it is the word given to their tradition of giving book on Christmas Eve and spending the rest of the night reading it. I think it is a great tradition which I haven't quite done as of yet, except for the reading book part. This is how I spend myfree time waiting for Christmas to arrive. 'Tis the season to be reading, after all.

Chevreuil
