Apple juice: the drink of autumn?

We went to Hogshaw Farm lastyear and before we left we bought fresh apple juice. I love apple juice, especially in autumn, and every time we go to a petting zoo, a gardening centre or a farmer's marker and it sells apple juice, I buy some. Many drinks are associated to autumn: cider, autumn beers and pumpkin spice latte of course. I am probably forgetting many. But it strikes me that autumn being in many ways the fruit of autumn and its harvest, the apple juice could easily be considered the drink of autumn, at least as much as cider or mulled cider. What do you think?

Giant tractor model

I took this picture at Hogshaw Farm a few months ago, the one and only time we went there. I hope we can go back one day. It's not next door, but it's really a nice petting zoo. It also had a building which was a sort of gaming area for children, with inflatable castles and also this tractor model. It almost looked real, but it was like a giant toy for Wolfie, who has been loving tractors since he's a toddler. This one is even cooler than a tree house. And I had the privilege to be Wolfie's play pal for his time there. So long story short, I cannot wait to go back to Hogshaw Farm.

Wildcat

I took this picture last October at Hogshaw Farm and I wanted to share it today just because. It is a wildcat. I have never seen one in the wild, at least not that I can think of (I know some people confuse them with domestic cats), but I saw a few in petting zoos and animal sanctuaries. I love them, they are like little Northern tigers. Maybe it's only me, but I do think they really do look like feral, untamed little felines. I would not mess with them. Oh and what haunting eyes they have!

Of Ravens and Halloween

I took this picture early in October at Hogshaw Farm, a petting zoo we quite liked and that had lots of Halloween stuff already. It is a true raven. It struck me that because of their cultural depiction, often with sinister associations, ravens are perfect birds for the Halloween season. But they are seldom used, sadly. Of course, there is Edgar Allan Poe's poem/horror story(ish) The Raven, but since a certain program made a parody of it, I cannot take it seriously anymore. As much as it made me laugh, it is a shame. I think ravens should return in horror stories and in Halloween imagery.

The tractor and the pumpkins

Last Sunday, we went to Hogshaw Farm, a petting zoo that had a special harvest festival on that day. We came in a bit late, as it was a last minute decision and it is not next door, so we didn't do a whole lot regarding the festival. But we had fun all the same. It had a few really nice autumnal displays, such as this tractor with a trailer full of pumpkins. This is harvest and autumn in a nutshell, as well as heralding Halloween. Also, Wolfie loves tractors, so father and son enjoyed the sight tremendously.
