A 10% discount on a sandwich?

We learned something very strange at work today: the sandwich shop where I go to buy my Friday treat will offer a 10% discount for the employees on my company.10% off. On a sandwich. With the Coca Cola I buy to go with it, my chicken mayo baguette with green olives (because that's what makes the sandwich so special) costs me less than a fiver (so five pounds). So...why the discount?

This gets even funnier. We are to say the company we work for and a password. A password. For a 10% discount. On a sandwich. And they know which company I work for. How ridiculous will it be to order that darn sandwich and benefit from the discount? What if there's people around that are not from the company? Are we supposed to whisper the password? Write it down? All this for a lunch I'm more than happy to pay full price anyway (and tip). It gave us a good laugh, but it got me worried: could they be struggling? Apparently, they have changed name too, which is not a good sign either, especially if it's the same administration. So I wonder if I might not lose on the long my supply of Friday treat. I hate Mondays like this that bring such uncertainties. A 10% discount on a sandwich, who thought of that?

It all sounds so very secretive and James Bond-ish.

This reminds me of the show Weeds and their cheese sandwich shop that served as a front for drugs :)

It sounds like a delicious sandwich, even without the discount!
