It is Good Friday today and that means Easter is almost here and that means we are preparing the day... By buying lots and lots of chocolate. I found this Easter chocolate figure in Morrisons, which I found strange. I guess they have all sorts of things for Easter chocolates nowadays, all sorts of animals and things that are not animals. I did not always go for the traditional rabbit and often went for squirrels, bears, owls, but I never went for critters such as... a dragon. Yet I bought Sparky the Dragon. Because he is very cute and I thought it would be fun for the family to eat it. So it had been added to our stocks of Easter chocolate.
My wife sometimes goes to the playground with little Wolfie. As it has been warmer recently, she puts on him in his raincoat, which we bought in Jojo Maman Bébé. The raincoat has the colours and the features of a fox, with tails, ears and all. According to their website it is called the Fox Fisherman's Jacket. And little Wolfie is very cute in it, as you can see on this photo. Just so very, very, very cute. I know the wolf is his officious totem animal, but he has quite a lot of the fox in him too. He is naughty like one.

As Easter is approaching, we are trying to prepare the celebration. We will have most likely and as usual a quiet one, only us three, but I want us to have plenty of nice food and drinks to make it special. And, in my case, fitting alcoholic drinks. Although as a dad, I cannot drink all that much. Red wine would be fitting for Easter, but as it makes me sneeze, I will most likely settle for a beer. I bought a pack of four different beers from St. Peter's Brewery recently (a rediscovery: I had some in the past, but a long time ago) and I think this might be the beer of choice for Easter Sunday. Not because of its name (okay, maybe a bit), but because it's a quality beer and instead of red wine, a dark beer with rusty red colour such as their Ruby Red Ale would be very fitting. I might have to buy more packs though...
It is going to be Easter in a week now, so I thought I would recommend something fitting and what it more fitting than a good old historical novel set in Ancient Rome? It's my kind of pre-Easter read anyway. So I am reading at the moment (and at last) I, Claudius by Robert Graves. The novel is one epic tragicomedy
with a very human feel. Despised by the imperial family as its lesser
member, stammering Claudius survives wars, schemes, conspiracies of
Rome to accidentally and unwillingly become emperor, even though he wants nothing more than the restoration of the republic. Also the source
material of one of the greatest British TV drama ever produced, where I
first discovered it.
My wife went downtown yesterday and she told me that apparently the Action Men that are still on the window at the local luxury menswear shop, but they have been displayed differently. I hope they don't take away just yet. In fact, I like them so much that I am seriously considering buying some for myself, errr.... I mean, for Wolfie, when he is old enough. Not sure why I find them so cool. I think it's partially because unlike say G.I. Joe, they don't come with their preexisting detailed history. These figures are basically blank canvasses and you can invent their background, biography and personality yourself, creating true characters. So Action Men can stimulate the imagination a lot. It stimulates my imagination anyway. I wish they were available when and where I was growing up.
In a week time, it will be Good Friday, which for me became a day nearly as much celebrated as Easter in a way. I mean that I usually stuff myself with something delicious. As like last year I don't have proper bagels, I think this year I will have fish and chips. I have been craving them again and last time I ate some was in February. But from where? I took this picture in a local pub, one of the many posh gastropubs this town has. It was a bit too fancy: the chips were not really proper chips, more like barely fried potatoes and the fish was a bit small. It tasted a bit too healthy for a proper fish and chips and worse, it left me hungry, which for me is a cardinal sin when you have fish and chips. So I will try to convince my wife to go to the local chip shop, or go to another pub where they serve the real deal.
