How's your September so far? As you know, I consider that autumn starts with the month, not on the equinox. Be that as it may, it's been so far an okay month: a tad too warm, perhaps, but you can feel the cooler air and that smell that is so typical of autumn. You know that one? The temperature may still be in the lower 20s, it still does feel like summertime anymore. And I'm very glad for it. One sign though I hadn't yet seen were the flocks of geese flying south. Their cry pretty much heralds the season for me. Well, two days ago, late afternoon, I heard them. I did not see the flock, but I heard their distinctive cry. And it really felt good.

Miguelito Siempre!
Friday, 2 September 2022

Vesuvio Souvenir
For our wedding anniversary, my wife and I went to Avanti, a little Italian restaurant in the little town of Wallingford. It was a lovely evening and Avanti was the perfect place to celebrate. Like many Italian restaurants, it had many little things that were used as part of the décor. Such as this bottle of what I assume was limoncello, in the shape of Italy and of a booth, called "Vesuvio Souvenir", so probably bought somewhere near Mount Vesuvius. I thought it was funny, this delicate carved bottle associated with a volcano. Anyway, we didn't drink limoncello after the meal, I'm not a big fan of it anyway, but for a moment I almost felt like I was back in Italy. My wife and I agree that we ought to visit it one day.

New sign of Halloween (and a Pumpkin Festival)
We went to a local petting zoo this weekend and something I saw made my day: there was that sign advertising the upcoming Pumpkin Festival in October. With pumpkins (but strangely no jack o's) and friendly looking scarecrows. This is the very first local sign of Halloween I have seen. When the time comes, we are most definitely going there, especially since the place is going to be decorated for Halloween. I am so very glad they are already advertising seasonal activies in late August. It is most definitely not too early. For Halloween, I tend to think it is never too early. In any case, I hope the spooky readers among you enjoy.
