The quest for a hat

This is something I have been thinking about for quite a while: for a hot and sunny summertime, shades are not enough. I have decided that I need a hat. I never wore something on the head during summertime since when I was a child and was not ashamed to wear a baseball or a golf cap. But now I want a proper hat. So I have decided to look for one. I have no idea where to find a good one and what would look nice, i.e. that would not make me look like Gilligan. Any idea? Or is wearing a hat too old/old fashioned for a middle aged man nowadays?
