Children Parties

Last weekend, we went to two children birthday parties, back to back. Not the first one since Wolfie started school. In fact, I kind of lost count of the number of celebrations we went to as new parents. It's a new sort of social life, one we never quite had before. We don't know every parent, many are acquaintances but none are friends as of yet, nevertheless we spend a good deal of time with them. When we started doing it, Wolfie was not very thrilled. Now he always look forward to it. Mainly because he knows there will be sweets, but also because he enjoys meeting his friends. And we do too, as it really allows us to socialize. I think my mother-in-law said it best: "It's a nice way to get you through January faster." And this deserves to be a great unknown line.

When I was a kid, kids' birthday parties were for kids only. That's how God intended kids' birthday parties to be and I still prefer it that way. Occasionally we get invited to small childrens' birthday parties (grandchildren of friends/relatives) and I always hate attending. SO MUCH UNRELENTING NOISE AND CHAOS! Now I always beg off if invited.
