"Blue Monday"

As you may know, today is Blue Monday, allegedly the most depressing day of the year, although this is pure hoghwash. Most years, I don't care, for the reasons stated here. There are of course exception, such as last year's Blue Monday, which truly was depressing to me (and, I suspect, others too). But this year, that should not be the case. Because I'm still unemployed, for one. Also, because there is quite a lot of movement on the job front: recruiters and employers are calling me and I have some job prospects. Therefore I am in a fairly good mood. I quite like January, even in this country, I find Mondays more bearable when I don't have to go to work anyway, so... yeah. Happy "Blue Monday" to you, hoping it's not too blue.

THE Blue Monday

Today is Blue Monday. Usually, I wouldn't care less. Because it's pure pseudoscience to begin with. Because there are worse Mondays than January Mondays and the first working Monday of January is worse than any other in the month anyway. However, not this Blue Monday 2025. This is a proper, genuine, bona fide Blue Monday, the Blue Monday to end all Blue Mondays, THE Blue Monday. There are two reasons for it. The first one, you can probably guess. Yup, the Swine is back. The other reason is that my current job sucks. And things are probably going to get worse before they get better. To a point where pretty much every working day for me will be Blue Monday, until further notice. So yeah, I'm not in a very good mood.

Blue Monday: some thoughts

In case you didn't know, or maybe didn't notice, or didn't care (which is almost my case), today is Blue Monday. The most depressing day of the year, according to, well, pseudoscience. But I don't find this Monday more depressing than any other and I find it less depressing than other Mondays in the year. Of course, the day is still young, so I might feel differently in the evening, therefore touch wood. So far, so good. I don't find Blue Mondays depressing for the reasons stated in 2023. To sum it up here: I don't hate my job, I don't have to commute to go to work, I find the months of June and July more depressing than January and I only got back at work last week. Also, I have a few more holidays this month. So yeah, while no working Monday is great, and while I understand why some people dislike it, I don't feel particularly blue today.

Blue Monday (or not)

In case you did not know, today is Blue Monday. Allegedly the most depressing day of the year. Of course, this is according to pseudo-scientific considerations, so for me it is pure hogwash. Not that I never felt dow on a Monday in January and that I did not find it difficult in the past, but there are reasons why I find Mondays in January and Blue Monday in particular to be not too bad, all things considered. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

-I don't have to commute to go to work anymore.

-I don't hate my job. (Three years ago I might have felt differently about Blue Monday).

-I genuinely prefer January to June or July, especially if there is a heatwave. So I don't feel so down.

-I'm way over the post-Christmas blues at this point in the month.

-This year I only got back from leave last Monday, so this working month will be considerably shorter.

Therefore this Monday should not be too bad, touch wood. And worst case scenario... It would still be just a lousy Monday, just like any other lousy Monday you can have in a year.

Blue Monday (so-called)

Once again this year, it is Blue Monday. Which I don't believe into, to be honest. Anyway, the third Monday of January is meant to be the most depressing of the year. It sort of makes sense, January being particularly gloomy and Monday being, well Monday. But for my taste, every Monday is Blue Monday, especially in January. And I will make a confession here: if I had to choose a personal Blue Monday, it would be at some point in July (I hate summer heat). Be that as it may, even in gloomy January and accepting, for argument's sake, that Blue Monday is a real thing, it could be worse: I don't hate the job I have (a few years ago, that was a different matter)and the current pandemic means that I don't have to commute. Working days generally go pretty fast, thankfully. And you, do you feel bluesy on Blue Monday? If so, how do you cope with it?

Did you notice Blue Monday yesterday?

So it was Blue Monday yesterday. Did you notice it? I certainly did not. Firstly, because I don't think the most depressing day of the year can truly be calculated, secondly because every working Monday is dreary and depressing. And this year, with the pandemic and the lockdown, it feels just like any other working day, no more nor less depressing. There is another reason why my Blue Monday went like a charm, or as well as a Monday can go: I hated my previous job, so now I feel that grateful I have a better job, better employers and better colleagues. Things are always more bearable when you know they could be far worse. This year's Mondays feel better than last year's Fridays.

"Blue Monday" again...

So here we go again, today is Blue Monday, allegedly the most depressing day of the year. Which is of course pure hogwash: the most depressing day of the year, if there is one, would differ from person to person and according to way too many variables to be able to pinpoint it to a specific day in advance. January is, by and large, a rather depressing month. And Mondays are never very pleasant. I never liked them much anyway, except when they end. Anyone among you who enjoy Monday, especially in January?

How blue is your Monday?

Today is Blue Monday, allegedly the most depressing day of the year. I generally mention it every year on this blog, although I don't believe in it: the concept is pure pseudoscience. January is a depressing month, Monday is a depressing day, so I can understand why the concept seems to make sense but truly, as I said here, every Monday is Blue Monday. In any case, I hope my Monday, and yours, goes well.

Every Monday...

I blogged last week about Blue Monday, as it was Blue Monday. I made this comment: "every Monday is Blue Monday." Fellow blogger and frequent reader of Vraie Fiction Debra said on her comment that it should be a great unknown line. As it is Monday again, I have decided to officially make it on this post a new great unknown line. In the meantime one can verify its claim. Was/Is your Monday like last Monday and like every Monday. Was/Is it a blue one?

Blue Monday

It is Blue Monday today, for those who believe such dubious concept exists: that Monday in January which is supposed to be the dreariest, most depressing day of the year. Which is of course, pure hogwash: every Monday is Blue Monday, when you think about it. Or at least every Monday in January. The moment you get up to go to work, it is all gloom and doom until next time. Anyway, you can read more details about it here. I don't care about Mondays, but find the concept mildly interesting, even though it is pseudoscience.

Blue Monday (?)

It is Blue Monday today. A concept that is dubious and maybe not worthy of the attention it receives. It is the whole month of January that is depressing, more so on Monday, but not a particular Monday of the month. Like the eldest teenage daughter of a friend said (as reported by her father on Facebook): "January is like a massive Monday". Words of wisdom, which deserves to be a new great unknown line. And in my case this year, although I find the day pretty miserable looking, I don't feel the Monday blues or the January one, as I am on holiday. Sorry to rub it in for those of you working today.

I survived Blue Monday again

It was Blue Monday today, which I blogged about before. I know it is a whole lot of rubbish, I can understand why some are irritated by it. But even as a modern superstition, I can understand the appeal of it: January as a month sure sucks. Monday as a day often does. For me, it is more about surviving the-post Christmas blues. And my Mondays are always a bit blue. Today was cold, icy even, it felt like a nasty Monday, but it was uneventful at work. I was just tired. It was just a Monday.

I survived Blue Monday

A colleague told me this morning, right before getting to work, that yesterday was Blue Monday. I never heard about it before, or if I did I don't remember it, which is just as good. Blue Monday, also called (more appropriately I think) Black Monday, is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year and well, according to very serious scientific studies (ahem!) it was yesterday. I am happy I didn't know it: the temperature was rainy and miserable, it was dark grey all day, I was tired as I had not slept much the night before and overall it was long, long long and very depressing. I don't know how I got through it, but I did.

And what a difference a day makes! Today it was sunny and I did not feel that sinking feeling of melancholia. Maybe it should be called Recovery Tuesday. Anyway, Blue Monday might a very dubious concept, the Monday Feeling is still very real and yesterday it certainly looked like the most depressing day of the year.
