No Mow May

I have only learned about it on the last day of May, but I thought I needed to mention it here: last month was No Mow May.  If you do No Mow May, you should not mow the lawn for the whole month, so the bees (other insects too, but especially the bees) can pollinate the wild flowers that will bloom. You can read about it in this article in The Guardian. Well, I now feel less guilty for not mowing the back garden for the whole month. Although I did mow the front one, as my wife insisted. Well, this will not happen again for May. I now know that I must be eco-friendly and help the bees. All these years, I was fighting the good fight and I didn't even know it.

The Queen and her Knight

It is the 14th of July, so how about a joke disguised as a fable about an unreasonable queen with a terrible plan? I found this comics online recently, in my Facebook feed, and I thought it was absolutely hilarious. So I decided to share it here. I don't know from which series it is from, as soon as I know I will give credit where credit is due. It is a fairly slow burning gag, but the punchline (well, the Epilogue) is just, well, really, really funny. And pretty clever as well. I don't want to spoil it for you, just read it.

Guerilla Wolfie

My mother send us a package for her grandchild. There were clothes in it, lots of clothes. Some knitted things (see this post) and a new raincoat. You can see it on the picture here. And you can see a glimpse of Domino as well, because Wolfie is obsessed with cats in general and Domino in particular. But I want to blog about the raincoat, as it has an uncanny resemblance to an army camouflage coat. A bit more bright and blue, a bit trendier, but it still looks like camouflage. My mum not being into anything army related or anything remotely resembling manly aggressiveness, I wonder what made her choose this coat in particular. It does fit our son's boisterous temperament and it looks nice on him, so I guess that was the intention. But he looks like Guerilla Wolfie when he wears it.

The fox, the bee... and the dinosaurs?

I blogged before about the fox raincoat of Wolfie. Well, it turns out that the fox is not his only totem animal: he has a bee backpack (with that cord thing my wife forbid me to call a leash and allows her to keep a hold of him for more safety) and rubber boots (wellies as the British call them) that have a crest and sharp teeth of dinosaurs. Wolfie is fully equipped and ready to go on an adventure. He often does, in fact. It's a fitting uniform: the fox for cunning and naughtiness, the bee for his cheerful nature, the dinosaurs for his strength and fearlessness.

Bees VS Wasps

Here is a bit of useful info for those who are wary of yellow and black stingy insects, especially during summer. I found this meme online, I shared it on Facebook last year and this year again. For the record, I can generally differentiate a bee and a wasp. I know little about insects, but I know that much. And also for the record, I know wasps have a use in the ecosystem and are not nearly as bad as this meme pictures them. All the same, I thought the meme was hilarious, so I decided to share it here. I hope it makes you laugh a bit.
