Blood for Baal!

Today is April Fool's Day, which means, well, that I quote The Simpsons' episode So It Comes to This: A Simpsons Clip Show. Since then, I cannot take Baal, or Bael, or Ba'al, seriously. But anyway, we're the first of April, it's a good excuse as any to have a laugh:

Boisson d'Avril (encore)

The First April Fool's Day

Today is April Fool's Day, and that means... well, that means I keep saying "Blood for Baal! Blood for Baal!" Taken of course from The Simpsons' episode So It Comes to This: A Simpsons Clip Show. Back when they were funny. I am sharing the video again, because, well, it is a sort of tradition. It never ceases to make me laugh. I don't think the info there is very accurate, but what the heck.

"Blood for Baal! Blood for Baal!"

Okay so I am not being original, but anyway, this is a sort of tradition on this blog: as it is April Fool's Day, here is the extract about it from The Simpsons' episode So It Comes to This: A Simpsons Clip Show. Hilarious as ever.

April Fool's Day

I don't know if anyone noticed, but we are now the first of April, therefore April Fool's Day. These days, with COVID-19, I don't think anybody wants to fool anyone. Or else we all feel like we are the fool of circumstances beyond our control, of a cosmic joke. Sorry, I am rambling, but it is the first thing that came on my mind thinking about the first of April. I promise, my next posts will be more cheerful.

The Heckler

No, no, I am not talking of any real person, I am referring to the title of a novel by Ed mcBain, featuring his 87th Precinct. Not just any novel in the series, but the one featuring archenemy, evil genius and master criminal the Deaf Man. He is also the heckler of the title. I read the novel a few months ago and decided to recommend it tonight for a simple reason: it is set in April and it starts in April Fool's Day. So it's a perfect crime read for this month and ideally to start today. The Deaf Man makes his debut in the series as a sinister and dangerous trickster whose jokes end up quite deadly. If parts of his plan is a tad far-fetched for today's readers, it is still solid suspense and a gripping read.

Poisson(s) d'avril

The April Fool is here!

I could not forget to mention it: today is not only Easter, but also April Fool's Day. So I decided to celebrate it here, briefly, with a joke from Peanuts. One day I must blog about Snoopy as the Easter Beagle, but that will be for another Easter. And I don't know why I find this strip so funny, but I do. There is just something hilarious about Snoopy's disguise in this one.

April Fool's Day's anecdote

Today is April Fool's Day, first day of April, and something funny happened to us. Thankfully, we were not the fools. We have recently ordered a rug for the living room. It was delivered to us today, except that... the delivery man had two rugs for us, exactly identical. I only paid for one. He told us that he was just the delivery man and that such mistakes happen, last week he delivered... four televisions to a man who had ordered. So anyway, we hesitated a moment, but as we had other things to do we just decided to keep both rugs for now. We have no idea what to do with the second one.

"Blood for Baal! Blood for Baal!"

Yes, I know I used the very same title last year to commemorate April Fool's Day. But this time, this time, YouTube gave me the film to go with it. I am talking of course of The Simpsons' episode So It Comes to This: A Simpsons Clip Show. Where the famous chant "Blood for Baal! Blood for Baal!"comes from: it is used in an interlude when Lisa explains the origins of April Fool's Day. The whole episode is hilarious, as every episode of the TV show was back then, but this is the line that never fails to crack me up. I am typing this and I am giggling. So here it is for you to enjoy:

Question existentielle (282)

"Blood for Baal! Blood for Baal!"

Does anyone know where I got the quote I used for this post's title from? Today, in case nobody's noticed, is April Fool's Day. Also incidentally the first day of April, but nobody cares about it. I associate the day a lot with an episode of the season 4 of The Simpsons, called So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show. For a clip show, it was actually brilliant. It was also set on April Fool's Day and after. At the beginning of the episode, Lisa explains the origins of the day, saying it came from Pagans. Cut to a flashbacks of the family, as primitives, dancing around an idol and chanting... Yes, "Blood for Baal! Blood for Baal!" If you are in the US, you can see the clip here. If not, you can read the story here. I am sorry I could not find a video to go with this post. For some reasons I have not quite grasped, I found this bit absolutely hilarious and it never fails to crack me up. Something about seeing America's most famous and most loved middle class family worshiping the god/demon Baal. It doesn't get any funnier than this.

Is the witch going, going, gone?

I hope it is not an April fool's joke. In which case I would be both devastated and furious.Well, this morning some movers came to the block and they moved things from... the apartment of the evil cat-hating witch I have as a neighbour, the one who had developed a sick obsession against my cat, who was rude to everyone who loved him. She has been a thorn at my side for way too long, behaving like she was the headmistress of a boarding school, with the residents as her pupils. Stupid woman. We knew she had been working on moving out, however since she was still here, I thought she'd never moved. There were also words about the sale of the flat not going through and her having reconsidered and being happy enough here to stay. But she seems to be leaving at last. Her flat seems empty and you can tell things have been moved in the corridor. So I will finally be able to give a Viking's funeral for Odin and spread his ashes in the bush he loved so much.

But all my feline love aside, I have other reasons to be happy to finally see the back of her. She was a busybody, she was a jibber jabber when she tolerated you, she was a prying, spying neighbour when she disliked you. The epitome of passive aggressive. She was, in other words, a witch, as ugly in physique and mind as one. So if this is not some kind of April Fool's joke, this departure is a blessing. Something April brings the most unexpected gifts.
