A fireman and a paramedic

Last weekend, we went to a fire station open day. It was a very small event, with only a few people, a few displays, but also some freebies: free pencils, free pens, free rulers, but also free little fur balls critters. We got two for my collection of cute critters, one fireman and one paramedic, with his ambulance frame. I think they look really cool. I'm glad I got the fireman, as I hadn't had one yet.

As my readership might know, I kind of collect those little fur ball figures thingies, which you can find sometimes given as promo material for businesses or organizations. Well, yesterday we went to an emergency service family day, or whatever it was called. There were police patrol cars, firemen trucks and there was also a stand of the Royal Navy. They were giving away various stuff, including these two thingamajigs, one that is well, navy blue and the other that is sea green. I took them home. How cool are they?

New little critter

My readership knows my fascination for little anthropomorphic fur balls (I don't know how you call them) which are used as promotional material for businesses and organizations. My last acquisition was Professor Red, which my wife brought to me from one of those jobs fairs. We found this one, the latest one in my collection, in a kiosk outside John Lewis (I think) from the Southern Central Ambulance Service. My wife was very embarrassed when I chatted to the volunteers there because she knew I had my eyes set on the little thingie. He's quite cool, with his many colours and the ambulance frame in front of him (or her?). I haven't found a name for it yet. Any suggestion?

Professor Red

Remember Mr Orange and Officer Blue, the two fur ball thingies that I have as decorations? I blogged about them in 2008. Back then, I said I would try to find more of these. I had the intention to start a collection of these trivial things. Well, years later, I have re-started the collection with a third addition to the lot: Professor Red. My wife went to a job fair recently and got this little fella from the University of Reading. He has a nice red colour and I wanted to distinguish him from the others and give him a name that fitted his background. As he comes from the world of academia, I have christened him Professor Red. I thought about Crimson or Scarlet at first, but then decided it would sound too pretentious. It may be an academic fur ball, but in the end, it's only a fur ball. So Professor Red it is.

Orange (la photo du mois)

C'est le moment de la photo du mois. Le thème du mois de juin, choisi par Xoliv, m'a rendu la tâche facile. J'ai pensé dans un premier temps à Mr Orange, mais je me suis dit que ce serait trop facile. Puis j'ai décidé de le mettre dans la photo juste parce que c'est Mr Orange et qu'il faut mettre un peu d'orange dans la photo. Sauf qu'au centre de la photo se trouve un sac célébrant les 50 ans d'A Clockwork Orange, le roman d'Anthony Burgess, mon écrivain préféré. Je l'ai achetée à la Fondation Anthony Burgess à Manchester en 2013. Le sac s'est donc imposé d'emblée.

Bleu (la photo du mois)

Le thème de ce mois-ci était "bleu" ce qui devrait être simple pour un Québécois francophone.  Et en fait, il m'a donné du fil à retordre (encore). Je voulais une photo récente et originale Et puis, j'ai eu un flash: pourquoi pas Officer Blue? C'est la décoration que j'ai la plus bleue, je l'ai depuis 2007, il m'a été donné gratuitement. Et qu'est-ce qui a de plus bleu qu'un policier? Surtout avec le nom de baptême que je lui ai donné.

Officer Blue and Mr. Orange

I have been wanting to write a blog entry about those two thingies for ages. I don't know what's the name for it, but I called the blue one Officer Blue and the orange one Mr. Orange. I got those at a jobs fair, Officer Blue was from the police stand and the orange one from The Orange Grove. I know almost nothing about The Orange Grove, but I really loved them. They used to give them/sell those kind of little fur balls at the Mikes restaurants in Québec back in the 80s, and although I never was a big fan of the food there, I wanted to go there to get the P'tits Gloutons. Anyway, so here are Officer Blue and Mr. Orange. I'll try to get more of those
