9, 11, 13
Today was and is the 13th anniversary of 9/11. I do not have much to say I didn't say before on this blog. I have blogged some of the posts I am most proud of about 9/11. This one in 2008. In 2009 too. This year, I will only mention it. No song commemorating it, no smart title, no musing about murder, blood and madness. Just these numbers. It is the true 13th year of the millennium, the true moment when it started, on September 11, 2001.

I think you're right -- 9/11 will be seen as the real start of the 21st century, just like WWI is seen as the real start of the 20th.
I'm kind of glad that my fellow Americans have calmed down about 9/11.
This year, there were more people posting about the other, perhaps more historically significant 9/11: General Pinochet's US-backed coup over the democratically elected leader of Chile, Salvadore Allende.
@Debra-Like I learned, an era starts and ends because of important events, not through the arbitrary calculations of men.
@Mantan-I actually wrote a post last year about Pinochet's coup d'état and dictatorship: http://vraiefiction.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/chile-other-911.html
