Dark Flood in the Library

Yesterday, Wolfie and I went to the local library to return some books. We spent a few minutes checking the shelves and was happily surprised to find Deon Meyer's The Dark Flood in paperback edition, proudly standing among their latest acquisitions in the genre. Now, I already own a copy since its release, so I didn't need to borrow it, but it's nice to see it all the same. It makes for a welcome change from the usual UK/US stuff. I don't need to borrow it, but I love my local library all the same.

Crime Fiction News for #Noirvember

If you have been reading this blog, you may know that South African crime writer Deon Meyer was writing a new novel. Well, it has been published late last month. In Afrikaans. I learned that it will be released in its English translation in October next year. Right in time for #Noirvember 2024. I can't wait.

I'm currently reading The Dark Flood, written by South African crime writer Deon Meyer. He's one of my favourite crime writers and one of the many things I love reading his books is how he gives a sense of place simply in a few lines. Okay, so many writers do it, but he's really efficient about it. For instance, he mentioned that the town of Stellenbosch is nicknamed Volvoville by police officer Vaughn Cupido, because many citizens drive Volvos there, apaprently. As Cupido explains: "if the world is your oyster, and you can buy any luxury car, why buy the most boring one known to man? Rich whiteys. I just don't get them." It made me laugh. My mother drove a Volvo for years and for me it was always a solid, reliable brand, but I know it is often perceived as a boring car. Anyway, I now have a pretty good (if somehow unflattering) feeling of Stellenbosch.

Got The Dark Flood at last!

Wo hoo, look what I got today! You may remember that I have been waiting and waiting for the release of The Dark Flood, the latest novel of South African crime writer Deon Meyer. Incidentally one of my favourite crime writers. I had preordered it a while ago, I was kind of wishing to read it for last year's #Noirvember, but oh well... Anyway, today, 14th of April 2022, it was released in the UK and it finally arrived. I have read a few pages already and that I had to wait or so long makes it all the more enjoyable.

Waiting for The Dark Flood

My birthday is coming next month, so I have decided to buy myself a present for when it arrives. My readers know that I love the work of South African crime writer Deon Meyer. His latest novel, The Dark Flood, has been translated into English and will be released in this country in April. So I pre-ordered it. I had wanted to have it for Noirvember but sadly it took much longer than I had expected to get it published (pandemic?). I try not to wish time away, but the wait for this book has been excruciating so far. I have other novels to read, but this is the one I really want to get into.

Well, I have some good news for crime fiction fans: the latest novel of South African crime writer Deon Meyer has been translated. Its English title is The Dark Flood. It is available to preorder now. Unfortunately, it will be released in April 2022, so too late for this #Noirvember. I will not be able to wait until next November to read it, in fact I was planning to read it now, but oh well. You can't go wrong with Deon Meyer and his books are perfect for #Noirvember reads: they bring a merciless sunshine and its light makes it impossible to escape the spectacle of violence and brutality. They always deliver.
