Radio Times ('Tis the season to be watching)

 It is a sight I always look for in shops this time of year: the Christmas edition of Radio Times! Because, as I said it before and as I am saying it again now: 'tis the season to be watching, falala lalaaaa... I buy it every year, except when we don't celebrate it in the UK, although even then I would be tempted to buy it anyway, just for the sheer pleasure of owning it and reading it. There are always interesting festive articles and interviews. This year, you may be surprised to know that I will not buy it. Because yes, we are going away. All the same, I love seeing Radio Times in the shops. It makes me feel Christmasssee.

 'Tis the season to be watching, fa, la, la, lala. Yesterday, I went to the show and saw the Christmas' Radio Times! I bought it immediately. I don't watch all that much television during the holidays, but I do like to take some time to watch some seasonal programming, I want to know what's on, and besides I enjoy Radio Times for its many articles and interviews. It's just a way for me to embrace British culture this time of year. We don't have snow during Christmastime, or very rarely, but at least we have quality television.

Radio Times for Easter

I know Easter is over, but not completely: it is still Eastery enough for Radio Times, which has a special holiday edition for this week. We saw this last Saturday when we went out. I hesitated, but I did not buy it. I just don't watch enough television all year round, except via streaming services. And the Easter holidays are just too short and too crammed. But it is a lovely cover, even cuter than the Xmas one. What do you think?

'Tis the season to be watching!

This has become a staple of our Christmases at home: the Christmas edition of Radio Times. I buy it every year we are here and this year is no exception. I found it on Monday night and got it right away. I don't watch all that much television during Christmastime, however I do love to have a reliable TV schedule and reading the articles and interviews of RT is part of the celebrations. You recognised on the cover Judith Kerr's Mog, who gets her own adaptation this year. I intend to watch it with Wolfie.

Radio Times (because 'tis the season to be watching)

At long last! The Christmas edition of Radio Times is out and I bought it last Saturday. I never miss it, even though I don't watch much tellie and there are other TV schedules that are much cheaper. But this is a tradition here in England and the articles are always enjoyable. And we can always find one or two hidden gems, a movie or a TV special, which we would not have found otherwise. In any case, when I hold this, it feels like Christmas. And what a great cover it has this year, very lush and elegant.

Waiting for the Radio Times Christmas Edition

This year, we are again spending Christmas here in the UK, we will not go home to Québec, as I had wanted. It was a difficult decision to make, but the right one. That said, it's not because I will feel homesick that I will not enjoy myself here. When I spent the festive season in the UK, I make sure to buy the Christmas edition of Radio Times. It is a double issue, covering the whole two weeks of Christmastime, showing both radio and television schedules for the holidays. It's not that I watch all that much tellie, but it's just a nice edition that puts you in the Christmas mood. And it always has some interesting articles, if nothing else. Looking online, I found out that it will be out on the 13th of December. Not so long to wait.

Radio Times, the Christmastime Edition

Yesterday, I bought the special holiday edition of Radio Times. The "legendary double edition". We cannot have a British Christmas without it. After all, it's legendary. Anyway, my wife always thinks that I am wasting money on that: we barely watch any TV. Maybe I am turning into an Englishman (kind of ironic, knowing if you think about it), but I really like having it here. And it doesn't matter how little I watch television: like for another sort of publication, you really buy Radio Times for the articles.

Radio Times for Christmastime

Well, since we are going to be stuck here in England and sine 'tis the season to be watching, we bought the special holiday edition of Radio Times. THE edition of Radio Times, really, the only one we feel we must buy in the year. And we are not the only ones: when my in-laws were expats in France, before they decided to move back to be closer to their grandchildren, this is what they asked us to bring when we were to visit them for Christmas. It is a British cultural treasure. Even though I barely watch any tellie anymore, I still want to buy it, if only to enjoy the articles.

The Christmas' Radio Times is available now! 'Tis the season to be watching... Except that we won't be watching much or indeed any British telly this Christmas, as we will be celebrating it away. So I saw this Radio Times, the Radio Times, the most famous issue (they call it legendary issue on the cover), but I did not buy it, although I was very tempted. All the same, we'll have real snow, family and friends we have not seen in years (literally), so I will not miss Radio Times all that much. Still, it's a very cool cover, as always, with the reindeers and the snowy surroundings. And I'm sure it's a great read too, whatever is on television during Christmastime.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and 'Tis the season to be watching. Case in point: Radio Times has finally released its Christmas issue. I don't have many Christmas traditions specifically linked to England, but one of the very few of them is buying a Radio Times to use as a TV guide for the season. In an age of streaming, browsing and of multiple channels, when you can find by the click of a mouse what is on the telly, this old-fashioned way of checking and choosing the entertainment has something reassuring and timeless. Owning a paper copy of Radio Times and reading its articles is part of my little Christmas pleasures.

Today, when we went out to the high street, we bought the Radio Times holiday special issue. It wouldn't be a British Christmas without it and it has become a tradition in this household just like it is in many families in the UK. At £4.50, a friend of us commented on Facebook that it is a bit pricey for a TV schedule and that she bought one at £1.00 that does the exact same thing, however I buy it more for the articles , which may not be very deep but are fun to read all the same, and the front cover which is always quite nice. It is one of these little Christmastime rituals I am quite fond of.

A Shakespearean Anniversary

Well, sometimes one is reminded of something great coming, or something to commemorate: next week will be the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare. I knew it already, but Radio Times reminded me with this cover for next week's TV schedule. Apparently, it will be the Shakespeare Season on the BBC. With plays by Shakespeare being featured, documentaries, with the great thespian actors of our time, and so on and so forth. So finally, finally, finally, something good on the telly. In times like this, I am glad to live in England.

Radio Times' Christmastime

I always feel a bit sad when I spend Christmas away from home. Especially a year like this when winter is not even remotely here. It is both devoid of snow and mild. The mildest December on record, apparently. That said, there are little things I do enjoy about spending Christmas in the UK, or at least little rituals and traditions we have which makes it special. One of them is reading the season's Radio Times.I only it's only a TV guide, but Christmas in England would not be the same without it. I actually find it more entertaining than many of the movies on schedule it reviews. So I was considering buying it yesterday, but my wife beat me to it. And when you have it, you know Christmastime can start. It must represent something in British psyche: my parents in law, among others, always buy one for Christmas.
