Devil's Peak's sequels?

So as I mentioned last Wednesday, I found on Channel 4 the TV series adaptation of Deon Meyer's Devil's Peak. And I binge watched it from Wednesday until tonight. As you can guess, I was thoroughly entertained and enjoyed it a lot. I recommend it. It's substantially different from the original novel, but it is faithful to its spirit. And it keeps you hooked until the last minute. Better still: I won't give anything away, but there is a sequel hook, so I think there might be more seasons. In the original, the characters of Bennie Griessel and Thobela Mpayipheli show up in future novels, so there is more source material to work on. I hope to see more.

Finding Devil's Peak

I have some good news for crime fiction aficionados living in the UK, especially if you love South Africa and its culture(s). It's good news for me anyway. So you may remember that I was looking for the TV series adaptation of Deon Meyer's Devil's Peak.Well, it's been released on Channel 4. So I started watching it today. So far, so great, although it's freely adapted from the novel. But it's quite gripping. Of course it's not exactly like I imagined it, but I can have a better picture of the novels' setting. Anyway, in any case, I'm so very glad I can finally watch it. I was getting desperate.

Looking for Devil's Peak

You may remember that I have been desperately looking for the TV series adaptation of Deon Meyer's Devil's Peak. I love his crime thrillers and of course I want to see all the adaptations of his work on the screen, whether they are movies or series. South Africa is such a great atmospheric setting for crime dramas and seeing it on screen adds a new perspective to the experience, like an extra layer. I thought it would screen on the BBC, eventually, but apparently it never did. I recently did a Google search and thought I could find it on Tubi, but again, no: it's available in the US and Canada, but not in the UK. I have started to wonder whether I should just subscribe to a streaming service that has it.

Devil's Peak: from page to screen

I am getting very excited: as I mentioned last year, there is an adaptation of South African crime writer Deon Meyer's Devil's Peak in the making. In fact,the TV series (miniserie?) is pretty much wrapped up at this point and there is even a teaser trailer. It will premier in South Africa, but as from what I understand the BBC funded it in part, therefore it should be available here at some point. I can barely wait, I loved the novel. So I hope I can watch it and that there will be more adaptations of Meyer's work in the future.

Devil's Peak, the TV Series

Now you know that I am a big fan of South African crime writer Deon Meyer and the characters and universe he created. I learned a few days that a TV adaptation of his novel Devil's Peak had started filming. Cool! It is the novel where reformed alcoholic detective Benny Griessel truly developed. It's not the first of his novels that has been adapted. I have watched a few adaptations and want to watch them all. I just need to find where and when it will be released here in the UK, if it gets released here. In the meantime, I am up to date with his novels, but if you haven't read Meyer's novels, I suggest you start. Like right now.

Sean Bean as Benny Griessel?

I have recently finished Thirteen Hours by Deon Meyer, maybe the most famous South African crime writer and one of my favorite crime writers. And I learned on the author's website that Sean Bean, famous for, well, many roles in many blockbuster movies and TV series which are so numerous I will not name, is in talk/rumored to play Benny Griessel, the recovering alcoholic cop who is the main character of the book, in a movie adaptation. I even read an old article from 2012 that he should actually star in the whole "Devil's Peak trilogy". Now I am a big fan of Sean Bean, because of those many movies and TV series which I will not list, so I would be over the moon if the project gets through. He would be perfect to play Benny Griessel. He has the physique and he has played before broken men and very convincingly. It would be even better if he can get the South African accent. The adaptations seem to be stuck in development hell, but if they ever get out of there... Well, I'll be very happy.
