Radio Times for Christmastime
Well, since we are going to be stuck here in England and sine 'tis the season to be watching, we bought the special holiday edition of Radio Times. THE edition of Radio Times, really, the only one we feel we must buy in the year. And we are not the only ones: when my in-laws were expats in France, before they decided to move back to be closer to their grandchildren, this is what they asked us to bring when we were to visit them for Christmas. It is a British cultural treasure. Even though I barely watch any tellie anymore, I still want to buy it, if only to enjoy the articles.

On respire.

Radio Times ('Tis the season to be watching!)
The
Christmas' Radio Times is available now! 'Tis the season to be
watching... Except that we won't be watching much or indeed any British telly this
Christmas, as we will be celebrating it away. So I saw this Radio Times, the Radio Times, the most famous issue (they call it legendary issue on the cover), but I did not buy it, although I was very tempted. All the same, we'll have real snow, family and friends we
have not seen in years (literally), so I will not miss Radio Times all
that much. Still, it's a very cool cover, as always, with the reindeers and the snowy surroundings. And I'm sure it's a great read
too, whatever is on television during Christmastime.Tuesday, 3 December 2019
Question existentielle (353)

Santa's Magic Key
This was a present Blonde Tickler and her parents gave us back in 2015, before we had little Wolfie and even before they or even we knew my wife was pregnant. As you can probably read on it, it says: "Dear Santa, we do not have a chimney so please use this magic key." I don't know how it works exactly, since it's magical and all, but our little boy is already very fond of it. He looks at it and smiles and giggles. It might be the cute reindeer on it, or it might be that Wolfie knows what the key is for and what purpose it has, even though he cannot read. Children know some things by instinct.

'Tis the season to be drinking...

Rocking Rudolph
Two weeks ago, there were major disruptions on the train line I use to commute, so I had to wait a while at the nearest pub to the station on my way back. It infuriated me, but in the meantime I decided to have a half pint waiting. Of course I had a Christmas ale, 'tis being the season to be drinking and all. It is not the first time I had Rocking Rudolph, at least I don't think so, but there are a lot of beers with Rudolph and his red nose on the label. It was quite enjoyable, or at least it made me forget my commute issues. Rocking Rudoplph is a typical Christmas beer: dark and spicy, so it got me in the spirit of the season for a moment. Not my holy grail, but I prefer it to the song that inspired the name of the beer, which I always found utterly stupid. Anyway, a dark beer on a dark night in a dark pub when Christmas is coming is maybe the best of a bad situation.

First meeting with Santa Claus
Well, we had a very important visitor in our little English village yesterday: Santa Claus in person (or Father Christmas as they still call him here) showed up.We knew that he was supposed to visited the streets, but not where we live because we are a bit remote, in his sleigh. Which I found very weird: there is no snow to sleigh on! well, the sleigh was on wheels and was pulled by a van with plastic reindeers. We did not expect to see him, yet we were walking home after shopping on the high street, and there he was, going down the streets, ready to be greeted by excited children at every corner.Every child except one baby, in fact: our little Wolfie remained completely indifferent, if not oblivious, to the jolly old man. When we saw him a few corners away, we decided to wait for him... And we waited, and waited. I guess that sleigh is really useless without snow, especially with these fake reindeers. I said to my wife: "If Santa is slow like this tonight, how is he supposed to come on the busiest night of the year?" I think this deserves to be a great unknown line. But hey, in the end, Santa Claus came to us, but then Wolfie was asleep. All the same, it was his first meeting with Santa Claus.
