War Games (and a tank)

We went to one of Wolfie's friends' birthday party yesterday. It was nice and Wolfie enjoyed it a lot. The main activity was a warn game with Nerf Guns. Kind of fitting, given that yesterday was the 11th of November. Maybe we should not be trivial about war, but since I am a child I always found war games both fun and cathartic. Wolfie and his friends enjoyed it greatly anyway. He usually gets bored at birthday parties, but not this time. And there were not only Nerf Guns: the whole décor was rather well done, really elaborate, with a cool and huge inflatable tank. Ironically, the birthday party was in a church. I must confess, I would rather play war than listen to a sermon.

Nerf Guns on sale

I went downtown yesterday, stopping at WHSmith for a few minutes. I did not buy anything, but I noticed that Nerf Guns were on sale. Well, the sale got quite successful, as you can see on this picture. I don't think I would have bought one, but if they re-stock, I might put it on my list of birthday presents. Wolfie and I played played with Nerf Guns at one of his friends' birthday party and we had a blast (no pun intended). I think it lacks to our weaponry here. And by "weaponry", I mean the cheap plastic toy guns and swords I bought him over the years.

Mysterious Nerf Gun

A few days ago, Wolfie and I walked through the secret passage, just for fun. If we have a secret passage, we might as well use it from time to time, it is a good exercise as any. We found among the dead leaves a small Nerf Guns. Not Wolfie's gun. Because he never had a Nerf Gun, for one. This gun most likely belongs to the neighbour who is a few months older than Wolfie and who tends to leaves his toys around the neighbourhood. We did not bother knocking at their door. That said, I have the intention to buy a Nerf Gun or two to Wolfie, because they are quite fun.

Guerilla Wargames

Today, we went to the birthday party of one of Wolfie's best friends. I am always a bit wary going to big children birthday parties, they can be fun, they can be boring and everything in-between. This one ended up quite fun. The hosting family had prepared a room for a battle game, with Nerf Guns and ammo a plenty. And also goggles for security. Wolfie was not sure at first, seeing the shooting. I think he thought it was a bit daunting. The father of the birthday boy tried to divide the children between two teams, one blue and one orange, but it didn't catch on. Not until after the lunch, when the kids were more relaxed, didn't care about the rules of engagement one bit and a bunch of teenagers (friends of the birthday boy's big sister) decided to play too. I loaded Wolfie's gun, explained how to pump it and shoot and... I joined in too. We decided to target the teenagers, I thought they can take it and won't get hurt as much as the children might. We had lots of fun and the teenagers were good sports. I think we won the war, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, I said it before and I will say it again: being the father of a boy allows me to live a second childhood.

Zombie Strike!

For today's (first?) countdown to Halloween post, it might surprise you that I blog about a children's game and a silly one at that. Last weekend, we went to the birthday party of some twin brothers, friends of Wolfie. They are four and their mother, who is Canadian, had decided to rent a room in a community centre and fill it with fun and games. One of them was this zombie shooting practice. With Nerf Guns as arsenal. Now I am not a big fan of zombies, of all the Halloween critters I find them quite meh, not very scary and rather uninspiring. But a zombie shooting ground? Zombie shooting? Count me in! That said, I could not convince Wolfie to play and getting these darn Nerf Blasters to work was really difficult. So in the end we did not shoot any zombie. That said, what a cool looking shooting game!
