Tracking Trackers

I am finishing for the second time South African crime writer Deon Meyer's novel Blood Safari. It is just as good as I remembered it and it made me eager for more. The hero appears in another novel, Trackers, which was adapted into a TV series of the same name (and not to be confuse with this one, same title except without an s). So yeah, I have beend esperate to find it. It's not on Netflix, but apparently (as far as I understand from the researches I made) it's on Sky TV, on Apple TV and on Amazon Prime. Just not the streaming services I am subscribed to. This is really frustrating. I was hoping to find it on BBC iPlayer, but no luck there either. This is very frustrating. I am kind of tempted to get Prime, but not sure it is worth it. I will be patient.

Tracker VS Trackers

You may remember that I got excited when I learned that a they had made a TV adaptation of  the novel Trackers by South African crime writer Deon Meyer. It was a great novel, mostly crime fiction, but partly spy thriller. I have been desperate to watch it since its release in 2019. I haven't had the chance yet. Well, I recently discovered (as in: I found out today)  that there is another drama titled... Tracker, without an s, an American one this time and totally not related to its almost namesake. And it's also crime fiction. I'm not sure if I will like it, but I am curious to watch it. Apparently, it's quite popular. Which actually is not good news for Trackers, as both can easily be confused for the other. I'd rather watch the South African drama, but hey, let's see what the other has to offer.

Trackers for #Noirvember

I mentioned two days ago #Noirvember, which made me at peace with a cold, dark and dreary month to the point of embracing it. Well, almost embracing it. But anyway, I got some good news recently which should put anyone in the spirit of #Noirvember: the novel Trackers by South African crime writer Deon Meyer will very soon be available in the UK. This Friday and on Sky Atlantic, to be precise. Which unfortunately I do not have Sky. It is a shame, as remembering how good the novel is, it would be perfect for #Noirvember. It has bodyguard Lemmer as one of the main protagonists and he's maybe my favourite character created by Meyer. The plot mixes both elements of crime and spy thriller, so there is for everyone's tastes here. Anyway, you can find the trailer on this post, if you want to see what it looks like.

Trackers on the screen

My readers know that I am a big fan of South African crime writer Deon Meyer. I have now read all his published books. One of my favourite of his is Trackers. You can read more about it here. As it is often the case with Meyer's work, it is as much a spy thriller as a crime novel, so you can enjoy two genres in one read. And I have now a reason to get excited about it again, as it has been adapted into a TV Series. I have seen the trailers and, while it does not look half as good as the source material, it still looks darn entertaining. Now I must find out if, when and where it will be available in the UK. Until then, here's the trailer:

Trackers by Deon Meyer

I have read all but one Deon Meyer books and I will read his latest one as soon as I am in the mood for scifi. These days, I am reading crime fiction and thought I would recommend to my readers one of my favourite of Meyer's crime novels: Trackers. It is in fact three novels in one and has three protagonists, in three parallels stories that interlace to finally unite in one single plot as the novel goes on: bodyguard for hire Lemmer (his second appearance), Mat Joubert (former cop now private investigator, also his second appearance in Meyer's novels as a protagonist) and Mila Strachan, former housewife who walks out of an abusive relationship to stumble into an espionage plot by finding a new career. Because this is as much a spy novel as a crime one. My favourite part is still the one featuring Lemmer, as he is my favourite character. Cold, professional, principled, but with a chip on his shoulder and haunted by a troubled past, trouble goes after him and it makes for gripping drama and plenty of violence. This time, trouble takes the turn of a mission to smuggle two endangered rhinos, but nothing is as it seems. It turns out to be a bloody affair. I want to re-read every Meyer novels and Trackers most of all.

The Black Swan

I took this picture at the York Castle Museum. I think this black swan is related to the pub of the same name, which is apparently an historical building. I know nothing about it. I associate the black swan with Swan Lake (of course) and the black swan theory. I have discovered the black swan theory through the crime novel Trackers by Deon Meyer. Masterful novel by the way, in which a character is referred to as a black swan, an aberration, improbably shady character in his honest and simple community. The analogy is taken from this essay by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, which I found among the books my brother Andrew owns. I don't know if I will ever read the essay, but I find fascinating the use of this theory by Deon Meyer in a crime story. So since I read Trackers, the black swan is a fascinating character archetype.
