Dem Bones (from The Prisoner)

Wolfie has been singing this song, which he learned at school. It got stuck in my head. For him, it's some fun catchy song, but for me it is a song that is featured in the last episode of cult tv series The Prisoner, one of my favourite. So here is the version used in The Prisoner, sung by The Four Lads. I have no idea if it is the best or not, but this is the one I know best.

"Be Seeing You" (The Prisoner)

"I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own."

I learned on the news that today was the 50th annyversary of The Prisoner, the cult tv series and brainchild of actor Patrick McGoohan. When he died, back in 2009, I blogged about him and my love of the series, which is one of my favourite and which I discovered in reruns when I was a teenager. I guess it was to be expected, that I made this kind of discovery at this time of my life, alongside A Clockwork Orange and other tales about the struggle between freedom and aggressive conformity. Knowing it is fifty years old and still fresh after half a century, it makes me want to rediscover it. Until then, here is the opening sequence, which gives you everything you need to know about the setting, the tone and its relevance:

RIP Patrick McGoohan

Sad news I learned yesterday just before going to bed: Patrick McGoohan is dead. I discovered him at 17, when a local channel was showing reruns of Danger Man. Then, of course, there was the revelation that was The Prisoner, maybe the best tv series ever, definitely the greatest 60s tv series. I guess loving that series was not very original for a teenager wanting to be free and different (like all the others), but it was still a great series. It is difficult to summarize in a few words and I don't think I would give it justice, but I put the intro here to give you a taste of what it was all about. You can find a documentary about the series on youtube. More on Patrick McGoonan here, here and here.
