Back to School in July?

I blogged before about Tinc, the chain of stationary shops full of cool designs, but that often irritates me when they start advertising the time before getting back to school. You know, when you, or rather your parents, must start stationary and stuff. Well, they surpassed themselves as they have already started advertising it! In July! The end of July, but still. So yesterday, I saw this board in the local shop's window. "Stay cool. Back to School." And school has barely been over. This always makes me feel melancholic, but also furious. If I had been a British kid, I would have thrown a brick at that window. Okay, maybe not that far, but can they just leave the kids alone?

The Back to School dread

I took this picture yesterday, on the shop window of Tinc. It was not nearly as bad as last year, with the atrocious "Glow Back to School" word play that was just rubbing it in. All the same, I know I am an adult and thus should not feel like it, but at the end of August, when I see such window in the town center, I feel the blues and a certain dread. And they advertise it everywhere. I remember my dad asking me when I was a child if I was looking forward to go back to school and he always received a grumpy answer. Not that I was bad at school or anything, I just didn't want to be there. It was only in cégep (college for Anglo-Saxon countries) that I started looking forward to the beginning of the school year. But that is for another blog post (although I am sure I blogged about it before). Now I wanted to mention that I hate seeing these kinds of shop windows around this time of year.

"Glow Back to School"?

Well, after what I saw last week, this was to be expected. I saw this on the front window of Tinc, a stationary shop specialized in funky designs. My wife and I like it quite a lot. I am going to like it still, in spite of this dreadful word play. "Glow Back to School" might look and sound funky, the furry beast of Tinc might be all enthusiastic and wild, thus depicting the back to school time exciting, it nevertheless reminds me that the beginning of the school year is imminent. And even though I am a grownup, it has the same effect on me as it did when I was a child: the August melancholy comes in full force. At least Tinc is a stationary shop, targeted at seven and eleven year old children and what they sell is nice and colourful. So I forgive them. All the same, it was a horrible word play and I can't shake off the melancholia.
